CHEMISTRY ACHIEVEMENT TESTS: DEVELOPING A STANDARDIZED MEASURE FOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
Abstract
This paper talks about the rehearsal of collecting data for the research. In research, it’s a significant part of preparing a tool to collect data. The tool can be a questionnaire when the method is a survey or a test paper for an experimental method. In the process of preparing a tool, it's of great importance to check the reliability of the tool to get a precise result. For the research which is an experimental study, an achievement test is prepared as a tool by the researcher. The tool is prepared to measure the knowledge of the learner – a class XI student, in the subject Chemistry. A lesson in chemistry from the learner’s syllabus is chosen and a blueprint is made for preparing an MCQ containing 85 questions. A pilot study was conducted for 123 XI standard Science group students in a private school. Based on the analysis of the pilot study the reliability of the achievement test paper was found and the questions were cut down from 85 to 54 based on the analysis to enhance the effectiveness of the research.
