Abstract

Abstract: The internet's quick development and spread has improved relationships, interaction, and informational options. The idea of internet addiction came about as a result of people using the internet excessively and without moderation. Students in higher secondary education may be more susceptible to Internet addiction due to mental and outside factors in their lives. Because they are less able to regulate their excitement for online activities, adolescents are more susceptible to internet addiction (IA). In this research, the degree of IA and its effects on high school pupils were evaluated using a descriptive methodology. In particular, we examine the relationship between the level of internet addiction and the mental health of school students from standard XI who are in their adolescent stage. This study covers 100 students from three different schools and different mediums of study. The Internet Addiction Test (IAT) is carried out by preparing various positive and negative questionaries about the Internet. The study shows that the type of school, the locality of the students, and the awareness among their parents on internet usage plays a pivotal role in addiction among students. The results highlight the vulnerability of college students to Internet addiction. The findings validate the inclusion of Internet Addiction in the DSM-VI, shed light on the compulsive behaviours of Internet users, and open up new avenues for future research.
