DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF PRESSURE VESSEL HEAD USING FEM
Abstract
Abstract : Pressure vessel designing is a really difficult task. There are a variety of heads or ends that can be provided for a pressure vessel. This research paper deals with the Finite element analysis of with a variety of end closures (head) of pressure vessels and pressure vessel themselves keeping the same thickness and cylindrical volume. The desired pressure vessel is designed as per ASME standards. In this paper, a comparative study of different types of pressure vessel heads is discussed. The purpose of the work is to find out the best possible end closure out of shell or flat head, Tori-spherical head, Elliptical head, Hemispherical head and Conical head. A finite element method based software ANSYS is used to observe the stresses in these heads.
